WATCH: How Akubra hats are made in Kempsey

Take a tour through the factory.

Akubra hats have been made in Kempsey for almost 50 years now.

The Mid North Coaster recently met Stephen Keir V, sixth-generation “master hatter” and Production Manager at the South Kempsey factory.

Keir took us on a tour, explaining each stage of the 162-step process to make an Akubra hat – from fur processing to sewing on the sweat band.

Next year, the iconic brand will celebrate 150 years in Australia.
