WATCH: MidCoast Knitting Nannas concerned about the climate
No more coal mines, more renewable energy, and saving local forests.

The Mid North Coaster hit the pavement in Taree in early August, and met a group of MidCoast Knitting Nannas sitting outside Lyne MP Alison Penfold’s office, holding signs. We asked the representatives about their mission and we were told the group wanted to see support for renewable energy, they didn’t want and new coal or gas mines popping, and about their fight to save the native forests from logging.
“We annoy all politicians equally on issues of climate and hoping that we can ameliorate what might happen with the climate in years to come, “ Member Heather McLaughlin told the Mid North Coaster.
The Nannas sit and knit outside Penfold’s office every Friday morning.
“We’re very much against nuclear, of course, and one of the reasons we sit here outside the local MPs office… is to bring attention to this,” McLaughlin said.
“We’re concerned particularly at the moment about new coal mines being opened, and The Nationals who are theoretically our representatives here in the electorate of Lyne –It’s always been a strong nationals’ seat – and unfortunately, The Nationals are the ones who are still considering nuclear energy, which we think is a terrible thing.”
