More than a tonne of cocaine was seized off Nambucca Heads on Friday.
NSW Police intercepted a vessel as it travelled back to shore, with officers allegedly seizing approximately 1,110 blocks of cocaine.
Two men were arrested onboard aged 24 and 26 and three other men were arrested on shore, aged 28, 29 and 35. All five men have been charged and appeared before court on Sunday where they were refused bail.
The State Crime Command’s Organised Crime Squad first commenced an investigation into the cocaine operation after receiving a tip off about a suspicious purchase of a 13-meter boat cruiser in the Sutherland area south of Sydney.
NSW Police State Crime Commander, Acting Assistant Commissioner Jason Weinstein said the value is estimated to be about $623 million.
“There's one million individual hits that haven't hit the streets of New South Wales… or Australia in general,” Weinstein said.
