The future of Kempsey councillor Noel Selby will be debated in private on Tuesday morning.
What happened: In mid-April, an account by the name of “Selby Noel” allegedly made the comment “pity he hadn’t bashed you” to a woman on a post in a Facebook group, triggering complaints to the council.
At the time, Selby advised Kempsey Shire Council’s CEO the content was posted from his social media account without his consent, however an independent investigation concluded he “did post the comment from his Facebook account”.
The findings: The investigator took the view Selby had breached the council’s Code of Conduct and the comment had the capacity to damage council's reputation.
She recommended Selby be censured by the council.
Under state law, consideration of a code of conduct investigation must take place in a meeting that is closed to the public.
Council will consider other matters on the agenda in the usual public setting.
What next: The outcome of the Selby discussions will be made public after the meeting.
