When Port Macquarie’s North Shore got smashed by a major flood in 2021, 450 millimetres of water inundated the home of local fire captain Kingsley Searle.

The floodwaters reached unexpected areas of the Port Macquarie region.

In response the local council commissioned a flood study of the Hastings River - for the first time since 2006.
