Would a tax on holiday homes release more permanent rentals on the Mid North Coast?

According to Homelessness NSW, short-term listings are dwarfing permanent rentals on the Mid North Coast at a ratio of eight to one.

Because of the impact on housing availability, a 7.5 percent tax on short-term bookings through platforms like Airbnb like has been proposed.

Would a tax convince holiday home owners to place their properties on the permanent rental market?
